A statement from the Chair of the Board

After thorough and careful consideration, on Tuesday, January 30, 2024, the Thames Valley District School Board (TVDSB) Board of Trustees decided against implementing a pilot program for policing in schools.

A positive learning environment, with safety as a top priority, remains a cornerstone of our approach to education.

Continued exploration and investment in alternative approaches are in progress, emphasizing the enhancement of mental health resources, the ongoing implementation of restorative justice practices, and the strengthening of community partnerships. 

TVDSB believes in cultivating a school culture where each student feels valued, respected, and safe. Collaborative work with all stakeholders is key to continually assessing and improving our safety protocols and educational strategies.

We continue to value and respect the contributions of our local police services in serving the community and we recognize their significant role in maintaining community safety. 

We appreciate the continued engagement of stakeholders and partners in our shared goal of providing the best possible environment to work, learn, and grow.
